Dine Out Chronicles: “Coconuts”

After having a rough first two days back at work after having over three months off making my own schedule- I was exhausted by the time my off days rolled around. It had literally only been two consecutive work days and I was beat- definitely out of shape and out of the swing of things to say the least.

With that being said- I did not want to cook, I did not want to clean dishes or do anything that required physical labor from me on my days off so I decided I would dine out and alleviate unneeded stress. Being that I foresee myself feeling this way every first day off for the unforeseeable future, I figured why not make it fun and create a blog for each restaurant I try and call them Dine Out Chronicles?! So here we are & thank you for reading!

For my first dine out adventure, my best friend and I selected one of my favorites close to home & on the water restaurants- “Coconuts”. The location is mostly known for their expansive, uninterrupted views of Fort Lauderdale’s intercostal waterways and their seafood!

Upon arrival we asked to sit outside at a table with a view & they did not disappoint! It was quite busy for a Tuesday afternoon but it is summer after all. Upon greeting our server we received delightful news that all wine bottles were 50% off- can you say winning!?! So we dove into a beautiful, crisp, refreshing Chardonnay and proceeded to order what I felt was a must when it comes to their appetizers- the shrimp & conch fritters. Their fritters are melt in your mouth good and are far from the sad, bread crumb filled fritters that some restaurants try to put out because they have lumps of conch and shrimp with corn the moment you bite in. YUM, YUM , YUM!

After the succulent conch and shrimp fritters, I tried to talk my friend into order their very popular “Scoobies” appetizer (crab claws & stuff-YUM) but she was not into it…..so we proceeded to order our entrees. The moment I heard the special from our waiter I knew what I was ordering. The special was a grilled or blackened swordfish with rice & peas, I prefer fresh grilled fish so I ordered grilled and added a side of grilled corn on the cob. The swordfish was cooked to perfection and the server remembered my request for extra lemons…. I was in entrée heaven.

Take a peek at the photos below and make sure to try Coconuts if you are ever in the Fort Lauderdale area!
