My Pricey “Spatch” Addiction

At first when my coworker ordered me a grilled chicken breast with a sweet potato mash of sorts for lunch from her “favorite healthy restaurant” I was less than enthused. I desperately wanted to order Chipotle but was shut down.
As my stomach rumbled with hunger I repeated the following mantra to myself countless times “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. You see this is what I always told myself when I was about to force myself to eat something undesirable but healthy. As a food and beverage manager who could essentially eat any junk I wanted I was somewhat dreading the upcoming lunch.
When the order finally arrived, the packaging was un-alluring and the food appeared simple, straightforward and to the point. You knew right from looking at it that it was just what you ordered or in this case - what was ordered for me.
As I bit into the chicken breast I was immediately pleasantly surprised- it was moist and seasoned extremely well, I proceeded to taste the sweet potato based side and was shocked- that was fucking delectable as well. Did the healthy food really taste better than what I originally craved !? It did.
In the moment I had no idea that a potential addiction was forming itself.
Fast Forward to quarantine- Spatch was added to Postmates……it was over for me. Me a cook, a lover of the culinary arts was eating out a minimum of three times a week to order the same variation of items from Spatch.
After calculating that I spent over $200 in one month just on Spatch delivery- I became inspired to recreate my favorite dish from them, two grilled chicken breasts in a lemon & herb sauce paired with brown rice & their mixed veggies and side salad with a vinaigrette.
After two attempts I perfected their lemon & herb sauce and have not ordered since.
I will however admit- the moment the outside world fully reopens- I will be their first dine in customer :)
Moral of this blog- learn to create your favorite pricey dishes right at home & save your coins!
